Street fashion: what is the point?
Street fashion – it is rather an ephemeral concept, direction, trend, which is characterized by convenience, practicality, comfort and restraint. She absorbed all the most important things and everything a little bit of sports style, classics and even informal style.
Even in bad taste there is originality
Urban style of dress appeared in the 1980s and became popular among the youth of London, Paris and Tokyo, where many well-known youth subcultures began to form at that time:
- Hippies with their fashion jeans T-shirts
- Teddy Boys who liked to walk around in double-collared coats Western-inspired wear western style clothes
- punks, recognizable by their torn and frayed jeans;
- skinheads with their love of pairing jeans with classic sweaters;
- Goths in black clothes and heavy boots;
- hip hoppers who liked to wear wide pants and stretched t-shirts;
- Rasta, recognizable by their clothing with African motifs.
Moreover, all these subcultures appeared before they were united by the concept of "street fashion".
As soon as street style appeared as such, at first its followers were reproached for the lack of taste and for the desire to combine what in the fashion world was not customary to combine and even use. But over time, street fashion fans have proven that gaudy things can also be interesting and even become the basis for creating rules. Although in street style, as you know, there are no rules! Rather, it is the bases or principles that distinguish this style from all others.
And although street fashion appeared under the influence of subcultures, today it contains more concepts and subtext than before, and now every city or country has its own street style, and each person can define it for himself in his own way. So, there are clothing trends that we can easily use in everyday life, and there are solutions that someone will seem strange and unacceptable, – this is what defines street style.
What is the basis of the wardrobe?
Men's wardrobe in its traditional interpretation, as a rule, consists of a pair of "pants-shirt"; or "pants-t-shirt". At the same time, trousers can be of completely different styles, colors and styles, but radical black classic models are not acceptable for street style. For this, jeans, chinos, light or beige models, sweatpants, etc. are more suitable.
Traditional shirts, tightly buttoned, and even with ties – this is also not "comme il faut" to create an image in the spirit of street fashion. For the street style, T-shirts, shirts and T-shirts are more relevant, but not with colorful colors, but plain or with a discreet print. It is allowed to throw a club jacket, light jacket or cardigan over a shirt or T-shirt.
During the cold season, street fashion fans do not change their style of clothing much: they add sweaters, jumpers, pullovers, coats and jackets to their outfit, remembering that street fashion does not allow heavy clothing. Therefore, it is better to forget about fur coats in winter, and when choosing a jacket, give preference to a short model.
What about the accessories?
Street casual, despite its practicality, versatility and functionality, still implies originality and a non-standard approach, the presence of a certain idea or concept in the image. Therefore, any street style look can be complemented with accessories. For example, a classic strict tie will obviously be out of topic, but a colorful model will be just in place in a street style.
When creating a street casual look, do not forget about bags that should be organically combined with clothes, and hats: a hat or baseball cap will protect from the sun and give the image boldness and energy.
Many people consider street style to be interesting and very unusual, in contrast to the refined styles of fashion catwalks. This is due to the fact that street fashion is open, spontaneous and simple, does not require special attention and allows you to simply enjoy life without asking what is fashionable this season.
